In the morning, Her Excellency, Ms Penelope Wensley AC, received at Government House the Premier of Queensland, The Honourable Campbell Newman MP, Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, The Honourable Jeff Seeney MP,  Clerk of the Parliament, Mr Neil Laurie, and  Sergeant-at-Arms, Mr Kevin Jones, for the formal presentation to the Governor of the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, The Honourable Fiona Simpson MP and of members of the 54th Queensland Parliament, where, in the presence of Mr Stuart McCosker, Parliamentary Officers and staff, members of The Speaker's family and invited guests, the Governor signed the Speaker's Commission and presented this to the Speaker, then, with Mr McCosker, hosted a morning tea in honour of the Speaker, her Parliamentary colleagues and guests.  

In the afternoon, Her Excellency, accompanied by Mr Stuart McCosker, attended Parliament House, George Street, Brisbane, for the formal opening of the 54th Parliament of Queensland, greeted by Major General Rick Burr DSC AM MVO, where, following a 19 gun salute, Her Excellency received a Royal Salute from the Australian Federation Guard and conducted an inspection of the Royal Guard, accompanied by Guard Commander Major John Cottis, of the Australian Army Band, Brisbane, accompanied by Major Jeff Cocks  and of the Queensland Mounted Police, accompanied by Queensland Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson PSM.

Following, her Excellency entered Parliament House, greeted by the Sergeant-at Arms, Mr Kevin Jones, then proceeded, in Official Procession, to the former Legislative Council Chamber, where Her Excellency delivered the formal opening speech to the Parliament. Following, the Governor and Mr McCosker attended a reception on the Speaker's Green, with the Premier, Ministers, Assistant Ministers, Members of Parliament, Parliamentary Officers and Staff and invited  guests, hosted by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, The Honourable Fiona Simpson MP.

In the morning, at Government House, Her Excellency Ms Penelope Wensley AC, officiated at an Investiture Ceremony for residents of Queensland, recipients of Honours and Awards within the Order of Australia, announced on Australia Day 2012 and on the Queen's Birthday 2011, where, in the presence of Official Guests, Director-General, Department of Premier and Cabinet, Mr Jon Grayson, representing The Premier of Queensland, the Honourable Campbell Newman MP; The Honourable Chief Justice Paul de Jersey AC; The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Commissioner Lee Johnson AFSM; The Queensland Ambulance Service, Commissioner Russell Bowles ASM and Mr Raymond Young OAM, representing  the Chairman, Order of Australia Association (Queensland Division), Professor Tony Webber AM, the Governor presented 19 individual awards and delivered a congratulatory address, then hosted a celebratory reception for the recipients, their families and guests. 

In the afternoon, the Governor, Honorary Member of The Moreton Club and Patron of the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) Foundation and the Queensland Museum (QM) Foundation, visited The Moreton Club, Moray Street, New Farm, welcomed by Club President, Ms Elizabeth Teeland and Vice President, Ms Jan Nutter, where the Governor viewed an "Exhibition of Wedding Dresses" contributed for display by members of the Club from city and country Queensland, guided by QM Conservator and Curator, and Guest Curator, QAG and Museum of Brisbane, Dr Michael Marendy and Assistant Director, Curatorial and Collection Development, Ms Suhanya Raffel, then officially opened the Exhibition, before joining Club Members and guests for High Tea.

In the evening, Her Excellency, Patron, United Nations Association of Australia, Queensland Branch and of the Australian Institute of International Affairs, Queensland Branch, received Mr John Michell, State Director, Queensland, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and Ms Anne Moores, Assistant Secretary, International Organisations and Legal Division, DFAT, Canberra and hosted a reception for a group of Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the United Nations, New York, from Antigua and Barbuda, Paraguay, Senegal, Zambia, Cyprus, Mexico and Slovakia, (accompanied by Her Excellency, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Australia, Ms Eva Ponomarenkova), visiting Queensland to participate in a High-Level Symposium of the UN 2012 Development Cooperation Forum, at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Earlier, in the morning, Her Excellency, Patron, Centaur Memorial Fund for Nurses, of the Naval Association of Australia, Queensland Section and the Navy League of Australia, Queensland Division, was represented by Lieutenant Commander Dominic Katter, Honorary ADC, at the Annual Centaur Commemorative Service, at St Andrews Anglican Church, Lutwyche, Brisbane, welcomed by President. In the morning, in Rockhampton, Her Excellency, Ms Penelope Wensley AC and Mr Stuart McCosker toured the exhibitions and displays at Beef Australia 2012, at the Rockhampton showgrounds, accompanied by Acting Mayor, Rockhampton Regional Council (RRC) and Mr Richard Wilson, where the Governor greeted exhibitors and thanked volunteers and representatives of community organisations providing services to the Exposition.

In the afternoon, following a meeting of Chairman, Beef Australia 2012, Mr Geoff Murphy and Treasurer, The Honourable Tim Nicholls MP, the Governor and Mr McCosker departed Rockhampton to return to Brisbane, farewelled by Acting Mayor RRC, Cr. Rose Swadling.

In the evening, Her Excellency, Patron, Life Sciences Queensland (LSQ) and of the Queensland Museum (QM) Foundation, attended a reception at the Museum, Southbank, for LSQ founding members and supporters, welcomed by  LSQ Chairman, Mr Peter Riddles, where the Governor delivered an address, thanking LSQ Foundation supporters for their commitment to the new organisation and to the Life Sciences industry in Queensland, then joined LSQ Chairman, Board Members Professor Peter Gray, Director, Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, University of Queensland, and Mr Michael McCardle, Director, Office of Research, Queensland University of Technology, CEO, Mr Mario Pennisi, LSQ Ambassadors,  Foundation members, Partners and Friends of LSQ and guests to view the current QM Exhibition ‘Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb' and  the film being presented in association with the exhibition.

In the morning, in Rockhampton, Her Excellency, Ms Penelope Wensley AC and Mr Stuart McCosker, accompanied by Acting Mayor, Rockhampton Regional Council (RRC), Cr. Rose Swadling, visited the Central Queensland Livestock Exchange (CQLX), Gracemere, greeted by Chairman, Beef 2012 Commercial Cattle Committee, Ms Annie Donaghue, where the Governor and Mr McCosker  visited the Saleyards to view cattle presented at the 2012 Ruralco CRT Australian Beef Cattle Championships, then  observed the  CQLX  Prime Cattle Sale of Champions and Feature Sale, opened by Chairman, Meat and Livestock  Australia (MLA), Mr Rob Anderson. 

Following, Her Excellency and Mr McCosker, accompanied by RRC Acting Mayor Rose Swadling, visited the Central Queensland Leagues Club, Rockhampton, to attend the  6th World Brangus Congress Forum Day,  welcomed by  Chairman, Beef Australia, Mr Geoff Murphy, CEO Mr Roger Desailly and  Mr Ian Galloway, Chairman, Congress Organising Committee, where the Governor and Mr McCosker heard presentations by representatives of the Brangus Associations of Argentina, Paraguay and Mexico, then  joined Congress participants for morning tea, with Mr Jim Maguire, President, Australian Brangus Cattle Association and Executive Officer, Ms Ashlee Austin.

In the afternoon, the Governor and Mr McCosker, accompanied by Acting Mayor, Cr. Rose Swadling, attended a luncheon at the Stone Grill, Beef Australia 2012 Rockhampton Showgrounds, hosted by Mr Richard Wilson and Mrs Libbie Wilson, owners, Keppel Bay Marina, with MLA Chairman, Mr Rob Anderson and Queensland cattle industry leaders and producers, Mr Graeme Acton, Mr Mark Wilson, Mr Peter Hughes and partners.

Later, in the afternoon, accompanied by RRC Acting Mayor Cr. Rose Swadling, the Governor and Mr McCosker  were Principal Guests at the Official Opening of Beef Australia 2012,  at the Centre Ring, Rockhampton Showgrounds, welcomed by Chairman, Beef Australia, Mr Geoff Murphy and CEO, Beef Australia, Mr Roger Desailly, where, in the presence of Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games, The Honourable Jann Stuckey MP, representing the Premier of Queensland, The Honourable Campbell Newman MP,  the Governor formally opened Beef Australia 2012, welcoming  Exposition participants, delegates to the 6th World Brangus Congress and  international visitors to Queensland.

In the evening, the Governor and Mr McCosker  joined Beef 2012 Chairman, Mr Geoff Murphy, for dinner at the Stone Grill, then attended a performance of ‘The Man from Snowy River Arena Spectacular', featured as part of Beef Australia 2012.
