Today, in the morning, at Government House, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, received Mr Neil Laurie, Clerk of the Queensland Parliament, for the presentation of the following bills for Assent:
Water Legislation (Dam Safety) Amendment Act 2017 - a bill for an Act to amend the Water Act 2000 and the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008 for particular purposes;
Local Government Electoral (Transparency and Accountability in Local Government) and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2017 - a bill for an act to amend the Associations Incorporation Act 1981, the Building Act 1975, the Local Government Electoral Act 2011, the Planning Act 2016, the Planning and Environment Court Act 2016, the Planning (Consequential) and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2016 and the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 for particular purposes;
State Penalties Enforcement Amendment Act 2017 - a bill for an Act to amend the Land Act 1994, the Land Title Act 1994 and the State Penalties Enforcement Act 1999, and to amend the legislation mentioned in schedule 1, for particular purposes;
Child Protection (Offender Reporting) and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2017 - a bill for an Act to amend the Child Protection (Offender Reporting) Act 2004, the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 and the Acts mentioned in schedule 1 for particular purposes, and to repeal the Child Protection (Offender Prohibition Order) Act 2008.
The granting of Royal Assent to bills passed by the Legislative Assembly is one of the Governor's key constitutional duties, and is an integral part of an Act of Parliament becoming the law of the land.
