On Sunday 6 June, 2010, Her Excellency Ms Penelope Wensley AO, Governor of Queensland, and Mr Stuart McCosker welcomed 2800 visitors to Government House Queensland Day Open Day, to celebrate one hundred years since Sir William MacGregor became the first Queensland Governor to live at Fernberg.
Joining celebrations on the day were former Governor, Mrs Leneen Forde AC and, representing another Governor, the family of the late Sir Walter Campbell AC QC, who participated in a rose planting ceremony to acknowledge the 15 Governors of Queensland who have resided at Fernberg since 1910.
Over sixty of the one hundred and seventy-four community organisations of which the Governor is Patron participated in a festive Community Fair to raise awareness and seek support for their activities from the attending general public on the day.
Several schools and community groups provided entertainment throughout the day, with the Australian Army Band Brisbane, the Queensland Police Pipes and Drums and the Carina-Mt Gravatt Salvation Army Band providing wonderful musical performances.
Visitors enjoyed guided tours of the house and gardens as well as the informative displays about the history of Fernberg and the governors who have resided here. Many came with their families - old and young - and with picnics to simply enjoy sitting in the gardens and extended grounds on a beautiful anniversary day that was.
