Her Excellency Ms Penelope Wensley AC, Governor of Queensland, welcomes school students to visit Government House to experience the beauty and history of one of Queensland's most gracious buildings and learn about the role and functions of the Governor of Queensland.

A visit to Government House is recommended for Year 7 students, in conjunction with a visit to Queensland Parliament House, during their studies of Government.    Link to Queensland Parliament House School Tour Information.

The visit will include a tour of Government House and surrounding grounds, a mock investiture with student participation and morning/afternoon tea.

  

Visit Times

 Tuesday - 10.30 am or 2.00 pm

Wednesday - 10.00 am or 2.00 pm

Thursday - 10.00 am or 2.00 pm

(except Public Holidays and subject to availability)

  • Timings for your visit may be discussed with the Events Coordinator at the time of booking, particularly if your group is planning to tour Parliament House prior to visiting Government House
  • Bookings are entirely dependent on the Governor's program and may, on occasion, have to be re-scheduled or house access restricted for part of your visit.
  • The duration for each visit is approximately one and three quarter hours. 
  • Morning tea will be served at the commencement of your morning visit.
  • Afternoon tea will be served at the conclusion of your afternoon visit.

Visit Information

  • Her Excellency endeavours to greet each group, but this is dependent upon her schedule.
  • The Governor should be addressed as "Your Excellency".
  • Students are advised to wear hats for the section of their tour which involves the Government House grounds.
  • Hats should not be worn inside Government House.
  • Photographs are not allowed inside Government House, in accordance with Queensland Art Gallery guidelines, but may be taken in the grounds.
  • Government House Volunteers conduct the tour and are all registered Blue Card holders .
  • There is no charge for your visit to Government House.
