On this day …
On Thursday, in the morning, at Government House, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM presided at a meeting of the Executive Council via teleconference.
In the evening, at Marist College, Ashgrove, Her Excellency attended the Scout’s Queensland Brisbane Gang Show and addressed the cast.
Scouts Queensland Chief Commissioner, Mr Geoff Doo; Distinguished guests; Ladies and gentlemen; Boys and girls.
I begin by acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the lands around Brisbane, the Turrbal and Jagera people, and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and to any First Nations people involved in the tonight’s performance.
First, as your Chief Scout – and as your Governor – I congratulate you all on a wonderful show.
You’re now coming to the end of a long journey that began with auditions last November.
And what a journey, not just for performers but for the more than 150 people in the Gang Show family who have supported this production.
In the last eight months, the cast and production team have spent their Tuesday nights and Sundays at Toowong State School to create and rehearse the show.
Music has been sourced, arranged and rehearsed; sets, props and costumes have been made; sound and lighting have been planned; and the myriad other tasks involved in putting on a show of this size have been ticked off a very long list.
It really is an extraordinary team effort, and whatever part you played in tonight’s show, you can be very proud what you have achieved.
Whether this is your very first show, or you’ve been involved in so many you’ve lost count, I’m sure this production has given you all an opportunity to learn and grow.
Whatever your task, be it performing a solo, doing the makeup or organising the catering, this production has almost certainly left you more skilled and confident, more considerate of others, better at coping with stress, a better planner, communicator and team player.
But I know the process will also have given you the gift of new friendships that you will cherish for years to come.
Congratulations again on tonight’s performance, and all the very best for the rest of the season.
