His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC and Mrs Kaye de Jersey will operate from Mount Isa from 17-23 August 2019 for the fifth Regional Government House programme.
The essence of Regional Government House is to conduct Government House operations for a week from a regional centre, to replicate so far as possible in the regional centre what would otherwise happen in the capital.
The Governor and Mrs Kaye de Jersey will undertake several official programme elements in Mount Isa, including receiving a briefing from local government representatives, visiting a local school, visiting and meeting emergency services personnel, hosting a community reception, and engaging with patronage organisations.
The vice-regal couple will also visit several communities in Queensland’s West and North West more accessible from Mount Isa than Brisbane, including Burketown, Camooweal, Dajarra, Cloncurry, Mornington Island, Richmond, Hughenden, Tambo and Blackall.
In communities affected by the 2019 North West floods and ongoing drought, His Excellency will meet and thank community leaders and emergency services personnel.
The Governor will also attend in this, the Year of Outback Tourism, the Gulf Country Frontier Days Festival in Burketown.
This is the fifth Regional Government House undertaken by the Governor and Mrs de Jersey, following successful programmes based in Cairns (2015), Longreach (2016), Mackay (2017) and Weipa (2018).
His Excellency was sworn in as Queensland’s 26th Governor on 29 July 2014 for an initial five-year term, and fulfils important constitutional, ceremonial and community duties. In November 2018, the Governor’s term was extended for another two years, through to 29 July 2021.
