His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, and Mrs Kaye de Jersey have continued their support for bushfire affected communities by today visiting parts of the Lockyer Valley.

The Governor and Mrs de Jersey received a briefing on the response and recovery effort from Lockyer Valley Regional Council representatives in Gatton before visiting Mount Sylvia State School, which served as a hub for firefighters and emergency services personnel responding to a bushfire in parts of Glen Rock State Forest and surrounding areas during October 2019.

In the afternoon, the Governor and Mrs de Jersey visited Laidley where they met residents who lost property, and emergency services personnel who responded, during a bushfire on and around 8 October 2019.

This is the vice-regal couple’s third regional visit in October 2019 to bushfire affected communities, having been earlier in the month to the Sunshine Coast and Stanthorpe. Further visits are planned to other impacted communities.

On 18 September 2019, the Governor also hosted, and received briefings from, Mayors of the following bushfire affected local government areas: Cr Greg Christensen (Mayor, Scenic Rim Regional Council); Councillor Tracy Dobie (Mayor, Southern Downs Regional Council); and Councillor Tony Wellington (Mayor, Noosa Shire Council).
