This afternoon, at The Ville, Townsville, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, received the Speaker of the Queensland Parliament, the Honourable Curtis Pitt MP, and the Sergeant-at-Arms, Mr Michael Watkin, for the presentation of Bills, to which the Governor granted Assent:
Appropriation (Parliament) Bill 2019: A Bill for an Act authorising the Treasurer to pay amounts from the consolidated fund for the Legislative Assembly and parliamentary service for the financial years starting 1 July 2019 and 1 July 2020;
Appropriation Bill 2019: A Bill for an Act authorising the Treasurer to pay amounts from the consolidated fund for departments for the financial years starting 1 July 2019 and 1 July 2020;
Youth Justice and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2019: A Bill for an Act to amend the Bail Act 1980, the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000, the Public Guardian Act 2014, the Youth Justice Act 1992 and the Acts mentioned in schedule 1 for particular purposes.
The granting of Royal Assent to Bills passed by the Legislative Assembly is one of the Governor's key constitutional duties, and is an integral part of an Act of Parliament becoming the law of the land.
The Governor granted Assent to these Bills in Townsville during the North Queensland Regional Parliament 2019.
