His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, and Mrs Kaye de Jersey will today embark on a three-day blitz up the Bruce Highway from Townsville to Cairns, stopping at five communities to promote tourism and support regional Queenslanders.

The vice-regal couple will fly into Townsville on Thursday, and drive up the Bruce Highway in a rental vehicle, with Crown numberplates and the Governor’s Standard pennant, before flying out of Cairns on Saturday afternoon.

Along the way, the Governor and Mrs de Jersey will stop at Ingham, Tully, Mission Beach, El Arish and Innisfail, and undertake 12 programme elements including visiting two schools, hosting three community receptions, receiving two Council briefings, hosting a business breakfast and meeting and thanking emergency services personnel.

On Saturday, the Governor will address guests and unveil a plaque at the centenary celebrations of the El Arish Soldiers’ Settlement, south of Innisfail.

The Governor and Mrs de Jersey are overnighting at Ingham and Mission Beach during the visit.

This is the second regional visit the Governor has undertaken since COVID-19 restrictions permitted intrastate travel in Queensland. In early August, the Governor will also visit Birdsville, Winton and Longreach.
