This afternoon, at Government House, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, received the Clerk of the Queensland Parliament, Mr Neil Laurie for the presentation of the following three Bills, to which the Governor granted Assent:
Associations Incorporation and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2020: A bill for an Act to amend the Associations Incorporation Act 1981, the Collections Act 1966, the Fair Trading Inspectors Act 2014, the State Penalties Enforcement Regulation 2014 and the Acts mentioned in schedule 1 for particular purposes;
Co-operatives National Law Bill 2020: A bill for an Act to apply a national law that regulates co-operatives, to amend this Act, the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 and the Acts mentioned in schedule 1 for particular purposes, and to repeal the Cooperatives Act 1997;
Community Services Industry (Portable Long Service Leave) Bill 2020: A bill for an Act to provide for an equitable and efficient system of portability of long service leave in the community services industry, and to amend this Act, the Bail Act 1980, the Building and Construction Industry (Portable Long Service Leave) Act 1991, the Contract Cleaning Industry (Portable Long Service Leave) Act 2005, the COVID-19 Emergency Response Act 2020, the Holidays Act 1983, the Industrial Relations Act 2016, the Public Health Act 2005, the Public Health Regulation 2018, the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and the Youth Justice Act 1992 for particular purposes.
The granting of Royal Assent to Bills passed by the Legislative Assembly is one of the Governor's key constitutional duties, and is an integral part of an Act of Parliament becoming the law of the land.
