Tuesday 16 June 2020

His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, today embarks on his first regional visit since COVID-19 restrictions altered his community visitation programme in March 2020.

His Excellency will visit Mitchell, Charleville and Goondiwindi from 16-17 June 2020.

In Mitchell, the Governor will this morning (16 June 2020) present Mrs Marvelle Kerslake with a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the local community.

In the afternoon, the Governor visits Charleville, and will receive a briefing from the Murweh Shire Council, officially open the new Astrodome at the Charleville Cosmos Centre, inspect the ‘Brisbane Line’ tourism project and meet student leaders.

In Goondiwindi, the Governor will receive a briefing from the Goondiwindi Regional Council, host a business and industry breakfast, visit the Goondiwindi State School and host a community morning tea.

The Governor averages a visit to a regional community once a week. While intrastate COVID-19 restrictions were in place, the Governor conducted ‘virtual’ engagement with the regions, teleconferencing Mayors and community leaders, and releasing video messages on social media acknowledging community events of State significance.

This is the Governor’s first regional visit since late February 2020, when His Excellency visited Rockhampton and Yeppoon to support residents affected by bushfire and thank organisations involved in the recovery effort.
