His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, hosted the first public events at Government House since March 2020, presenting Australian Honours and Awards to the following Queenslanders on Thursday, 18 June 2020:

Medals of the Order of Australia in the General Division (OAMs)

For service to people experiencing homelessness, especially as Co-Founder of Orange Sky Laundry, which positively connects communities through clean clothes, warm showers and genuine conversation.

Emeritus Professor Raymond Specht

Officer of the Order of Australia in the General Division (AO)

For distinguished service to science and to higher education, in the fields of botany, plant ecology, conservation and the environment, through senior positions and research at the Universities of Adelaide, Melbourne and Queensland, an extensive publication record, and active, long-term membership of associated professional bodies and committees, both nationally and internationally.


The presentation of Australian Honours and Awards is one of the central ceremonial duties of the Governor.
