This afternoon, at 1 William Street, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, was presented with the following two Bills by the Clerk of the Queensland Parliament, Mr Neil Laurie, to which the Governor granted Assent:
Resources Safety and Health Queensland Bill 2020: A Bill for an Act to establish a statutory body called Resources Safety and Health Queensland to regulate safety and health in the resources sector, establish an employing office, provide for the Commissioner for Resources Safety and Health, and to amend this Act, the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999, the Explosives Act 1999, the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999, the Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004, the Public Service Act 2008, the Statutory Bodies Financial Arrangements Regulation 2019 and the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 for particular purposes;
Public Health and Other Legislation (Public Health Emergency) Amendment Bill 2020: A Bill for an Act to amend the City of Brisbane Act 2010, the Constitution of Queensland 2001, the Economic Development Act 2012, the Electoral Act 1992, the Local Government Act 2009, the Local Government (Dissolution of Ipswich City Council) Act 2018, the Local Government Electoral Act 2011, the Local Government Regulation 2012, the Planning Act 2016, the Public Health Act 2005 and the State Penalties and Enforcement Regulation 2014 for particular purposes.
The granting of Royal Assent to Bills passed by the Legislative Assembly is one of the Governor's key constitutional duties, and is an integral part of an Act of Parliament becoming the law of the land.
