His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, today presented Australian Honours and Awards to the following Queenslanders:

CHAPLAIN GARY JOHN STONE

 

MEDAL OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION

For service to veterans and their families as president of the Veterans’ Care Association, Pastoral Care Director of the Timor Awakening rehabilitation program, Founder of Friends and Partners with East Timor, Honorary Chaplain to the Royal Australian Regiment Association and Chaplain to the ex-service community of the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane.

MEDAL OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION

For service to aviation education as a flight instructor, owner of Bob Tait's Aviation Theory School, and former owner of Hinchinbrook Air Services, as well as involvement in the establishment of the Queensland Chapter of the Australian Aerobatic Club and regular engagement by Griffith University to speak to aviation students.

MEDALS OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION

Mr David Teufel: For service to youth through Scouts in a range of roles including Branch Commissioner (Heritage) in the Branch Youth Program Team of Scouts Queensland, with responsibility for specialist program areas including heritage, environment education, spiritual development, performing arts, special needs, STEM, and youth involvement.

Mrs Robyn Teufel: For service to youth through Scouts as an activity leader in the Performing Arts and Heritage Teams under the Branch Youth Program of Scouts Queensland, as National Training Administration Officer, as District Commissioner of the Bramble Bay Scout District on Moreton Bay, and through a variety of other roles.

PROFESSOR RANJENY THOMAS

MEMBER OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION

For significant service to medical education and research, and to rheumatology, through The University of Queensland’s Translational Research Institute, Diamantina Institute, and Dendright, and other entities including Princess Alexandra Hospital, through publications, and through key roles for organisations including the Australian Rheumatology Association and the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.

MEDAL OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION

For service to rowing as a rowing coach for several Brisbane Clubs including the University of Queensland, Toowong, and Commercial Rowing Clubs and for school teams at St Joseph's College, All Hallows’ School and Brisbane Boys’ College, and as a selector, Queensland team manager and board member of Rowing Queensland.

MEDAL OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION

For service to horticulture through the cultivation of bromeliads in roles including chief judge, president and Patron of the Bromeliad Society of Queensland; and as a cultivator and hybridiser of bromeliads; a director of Bromeliad Society International, adviser to Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mount Coot-tha, and as a regular conference speaker. 

SERGEANT KARLENE LOUISE TREZISE

 

AUSTRALIAN POLICE MEDAL

For dedicated service to the Queensland Police Service and to the community of Esk, displaying leadership in a variety of General Duties Officer positions, particularly as Officer in Charge of Esk Police Station; implementing traffic enforcement measures to reduce road trauma; actively prosecuting drug offenders; and providing first response in disasters.

MEDAL OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION

For service to Buddhism and to education as founder, teacher and patron of the Tashi Khangmar Samdrub Ling School of Buddhist Science at Spring Hill, as Abbot and Vajra Master of the Gyume Tantric University in India, and through other roles as a teacher, author, and founder of Good Fortune Trust.

MEMBER OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION

For significant service to business administration and to corporate governance institutes, including the Governance Institute of Australia, the Chartered Governance Institute (London, United Kingdom), and the Corporate Secretaries International Association, and to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and as chairman and director of companies including Calix and Karoon Energy.

MS MARYANNE ELIZABETH WALSH

 

MEDAL OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION

For service to education through positions as teacher, department head, deputy principal and executive principal at various Queensland State High Schools; contributions to educational entities including Darling Downs Secondary Principals Association; and board membership and advisory roles for the Community Policing Board, Toowoomba Together Incorporated, Study Toowoomba and other organisations.
