Last week, South East Queensland combined dam levels dropped below 60%.
Although there are no formal water restrictions in place, Government House is voluntarily reducing its water consumption. Some of the practical water conservation measures being implemented include using organic mulch (such as sugar cane mulch, being applied here to begonias), cutting lawns longer to promote deeper root growth, more frequent inspections of irrigation systems, and watering in the early evening, overnight and mornings.
Government House will also turn off irrigation in parts of the formal zone until combined dam levels exceed 60%.
