His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, today presented Australian Honours and Awards to the following Queenslanders:

PROFESSOR DAVID MICKLE SCOTT

Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division

For service to medicine, particularly to anaesthetics, as an accredited anaesthetist and Director of Anaesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Lismore as an officeholder of several professional organisations, including as President of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists, and as a serving Group Captain of the Royal Australian Air Force Reserves.

Commendation for Distinguished Service

For distinguished performance of duties in warlike operations, through energetic leadership and professionalism, as an Advisor with Task Group 632 Rotation XI deployed on Operation OKRA in Iraq, leading to critical and lasting improvements in the Iraqi Counter Terrorism Services’ ability to conduct counter-Dae’sh operations.

THE LATE DR ADRIAN CHRISTOPHER ALLEN TO BE RECEIVED BY MRS PATRICIA ALLEN

Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division

For service to tertiary education, as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at the University of Southern Queensland, chairing the Asian Studies Program and proposing and developing new courses in Asian Studies, and to the community of Toowoomba, prominently through involvement in the establishment of the Ju Raku En Japanese Gardens in Toowoomba.

MRS RADMILA DESIC

 

Member of the Order of Australia in the General Division

For significant service to women in the construction industry, through senior positions in construction industry skills and career development organisations including as National Director and Vice-President of the National Association of Women in Construction and through work with several Queensland Government bodies, and to unemployed youth, through contributions to the organisation Busy at Work.

MR JOHN ROBERT CORLESS

Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division

For service to Australian Rules football in Queensland, as a player and through a wide variety of coaching, committee and leadership positions for clubs and organisations including Yeronga South Brisbane Football Club, Australian Football League of South Queensland, Teachers Football Club, and Western Districts Football Club, and as an inductee of the AFL Queensland Hall of Fame.

MR GARY WILLIAM COTTERILL

Ambulance Service Medal

For dedicated and committed service to the Queensland Ambulance Service and to the community, through a range of roles including as an Ambulance Officer stationed in Brisbane and as a Paramedic at Childers, earning the high regard of his peers and demonstrating exemplary service delivery.

THE LATE MRS DIANA JILL DICK TO BE RECEIVED BY MRS BELINDA WHITE

Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division

For service to bridge through a range of roles, including teacher for the Queensland Contract Bridge Club; member, teacher and honorary life member of the Toowong Bridge Club; and member, life member, president on two occasions, and director for the Northern Suburbs Bridge Club.

MRS ANGEL DIXON

Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division

For service to people with disability, and to social inclusion, through positions with the Attitude Foundation as Director and Chief Executive Officer; with The Hopkins Centre as an Ambassador and Adjunct Fellow of The Dignity Project and Moderator and Researcher for the Community Hub; through advocacy, ambassadorial and committee roles for other organisations; and as Queensland Young Australian of the Year.

MS ROBERTA LEIGH EMBREY

Australian Corrections Medal

For commitment to improving outcomes for prisoners and offenders and making a significant contribution to community safety, through roles with Queensland Corrective Services including as Acting General Manager, Sentence Management Services, providing a range of specialist services and contributing clinical and operational expertise to a number of complex projects.
