On Monday, in the morning, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, issued the following message: Kaye and I extend our heartfelt best wishes and support to all who have suffered, and continue to suffer, from the extraordinary storms which ravaged South East Queensland last Thursday. We also sincerely thank police, defence force, SES and church personnel and all who have assisted in the reconstruction of property and lives. May the plight of the victims soon be alleviated.
In the afternoon, at Government House, His Excellency the Administrator received the Chief Justice of Papua New Guinea, the Honourable Sir Salamo Injia Kt.
Earlier in the morning, at the Tattersall’s Club, Mrs Kaye de Jersey attended the Lyceum Club Brisbane Christmas Morning Tea.
Also in the morning, the Chief Justice of Queensland, the Honourable Tim Carmody, ceased duty as Acting Governor and the Honourable Justice Margaret McMurdo AC, commenced duty as Acting Governor.
In the evening, at Government House, His Excellency the Administrator and Mrs de Jersey hosted a dinner in support of Queensland’s science and research community. Guests included: The Honourable Ian Walker and Mrs Heather Walker; Dr Geoff Garrett AO and Mrs Janet Garrett; Professor Ian Frazer AC and Mrs Caroline Frazer; Professor Frank Gannon and Mrs Mary Gannon; Professor Christian Gericke and Dr Iman Mohasseb; Dr Andrew Johnson and Mrs Annie Johnson; Dr Peter Riddles and Ms Susan de Waard; Professor Brandon Wainwright and Mrs Claire Wainwright; and Air Commodore Mark Gower OAM and Mrs Julie Gower.
