A Message from His Majesty The King on the 80th Anniversary of V.J. Day
Buckingham Palace has released an audio message, recorded by His Majesty King Charles III to mark the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day.
His Majesty is pictured in the Morning Room at Clarence House, London, where he recorded the message earlier this month.
VJ (Victory over Japan) Day as it is known in Britain - or VP (Victory in the Pacific) Day as it is better known here in Australia - is celebrated on 15 August. This date commemorates Japan’s acceptance of the Allied demand for unconditional surrender on 14 August 1945.
For Australians, it meant that the Second World War was finally over.
The Governor and Professor Nimmo are currently in Townsville attending a series of Victory in the Pacific commemorations alongside state, federal and international dignitaries, defence chiefs and service men and women from the Australian Defence Force and US Armed Forces, veterans, and their families.
