Government House hosts Olympics Chief and IOC President-elect
As Queensland prepares to welcome the world to Brisbane in 2032, Government House is honoured to support key moments on the Olympic journey — including this week’s historic visit by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission.
At the request of the Premier, the Governor and Professor Nimmo hosted a formal Dinner at Government House to mark the first in-country meeting of the Commission. This significant occasion brought together international, national and state leaders committed to the success of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

- President of the International Olympic Committee, Mr Thomas Bach, and IOC President-elect, Mrs Kirsty Coventry

- Chair of the IOC Brisbane 2032 Coordination Commission, Mrs Mikaela Cojuangco-Jaworski

- Australian Olympic Committee President and IOC Member, Mr Ian Chesterman AM
- Honorary IOC Member and former AOC President, Mr John Coates AC, and Mrs Orieta Coates

Underscoring the dignity and ceremonial importance of the occasion, the evening included a traditional piper’s salute by Piper Corporal Griffyn Haroutunian of the 8th/9th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment.
As the representative of Queensland’s Head of State, His Majesty King Charles III, and on behalf of all Queenslanders, Her Excellency is a steadfast supporter of the Olympic and Paralympic movements and the Brisbane 2032 Games.
She recognises the immense potential of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to deliver enduring benefits — across infrastructure, trade, tourism, community connection and public health — and to inspire a generation of Queenslanders to dream boldly.
Through formal occasions such as this week’s dinner, hosted in the dignified setting of Government House, Her Excellency plays a vital role in strengthening relationships between local, national and international partners, and promoting the Olympic values of excellence, inclusion and global cooperation.
