King's Birthday Honours List recipients honoured
Government House recently hosted a dinner in honour of the 114 Queenslanders recognised in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours List, announced by the Governor-General.
The awards acknowledge individuals whose selfless service, commitment, and achievement enrich communities across Queensland and the nation. The accomplishments of the recipients were wide-ranging, spanning philanthropy in health and emergency services, leadership in public administration and tertiary education, and contributions to industries such as recreational fishing and engineering.
Honours also recognised distinguished service in policing, fire and ambulance services, corrections, palliative medicine, and emergency response. Others were celebrated for their dedication to education, medicine, community sport, cultural and charitable initiatives, and service to local communities.
Guests were welcomed with music from the Queensland Police Pipes and Drums, performed by Acting Pipe Major Vaughn Parker, before being announced into dinner.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Australian Honours and Awards system. Since its establishment in 1975, the system has recognised Australians from all walks of life who make a difference — through professional excellence, voluntary service, meritorious achievement or acts of bravery, whether locally, nationally or abroad.
Nominations are central to the system, with any Australian able to put forward a worthy candidate. Nominations are considered by the Council of the Order of Australia before recommendations are made to the Governor-General. This process ensures the contributions of Australians — often made quietly and without expectation of recognition — are formally acknowledged and celebrated.
