The Governor and Professor Nimmo have undertaken an official visit to the Western Downs, Maranoa and Murweh regional council areas, spending time with Queenslanders in their communities and hearing firsthand about the opportunities and challenges facing regional and rural areas.
On arrival in Chinchilla on Monday, Her Excellency visited Chinchilla Hospital, continuing her pledge to visit every public hospital in Queensland and meeting with dedicated frontline health workers, patients and staff. That evening, the Governor and Professor Nimmo attended a working dinner with the Western Downs Regional Council, hosted by Mayor Councillor Andrew Smith, councillors and senior staff, providing an opportunity to discuss local priorities and the region's future.
On Tuesday, the visit continued in the Maranoa region with stops in Injune and Mitchell.
At Injune Multipurpose Health Service, Her Excellency met with staff and patients alongside Professor Nimmo and Maranoa Regional Council Mayor Wendy Taylor, recognising the vital role regional health services play in supporting local communities.
The Governor and Professor Nimmo then visited Injune State School, where they met with student councillors and shared a reading of the Government House children's book 'A Place for all Queenslanders' with Prep and Year 1 students.
A community lunch at the Injune Art Gallery brought together councillors, council staff and local community representatives, providing valuable opportunities for conversation about the region's strengths, aspirations and priorities.
The day concluded with a visit to Mitchell Multipurpose Health Service, where Her Excellency and Professor Nimmo met with staff, patients and representatives of Queensland Health's South West Hospital and Health Service.
Wednesday's program will include a visit to Charleville Hospital, where the Governor will mark the completion of a commitment made at her Swearing-in Ceremony to visit every public hospital in Queensland. Since taking office, Her Excellency has travelled across the State to meet frontline health workers and learn more about the challenges and successes of healthcare delivery in communities large and small.
Before concluding her term on 1 November, she will have visited 150 public hospitals and health services, reflecting an enduring commitment to recognising the dedication of Queensland's healthcare workforce and meeting Queenslanders where they live.
Regional visits remain central to Her Excellency's goal of hearing directly from Queenslanders, gaining a deeper understanding of the diverse communities that make our State strong, and celebrating the people who serve them.
