Thirteen Queenslanders to receive Australian Bravery Decorations
The Governor has praised the courage and selfless sacrifice of the 13 Queenslanders announced by the Governor-General as the latest recipients of Australian Bravery Decorations.
Among them is Senior Constable Karyn Hart, awarded a Bravery Medal for confronting her knife-wielding neighbour and protecting a woman while off-duty in her home suburb of Dakabin in 2020.
Awarded on the recommendation of the independent Australian Bravery Decorations Council, the decorations honour those Australians who put themselves in danger to protect the lives or property of others.
On behalf of all Queenslanders, the Governor congratulates the following recipients and thanks them for their brave actions:
Awarded a Bravery Medal
Senior Constable Karyn Louise Hart
Senior Constable Karyn Hart displayed considerable bravery by her actions protecting a woman during a violent attack in Dakabin, Queensland on 27 August 2020.
Commended for Brave Conduct
Mr Martin Colin Lloyd
Mr Martin Lloyd is commended for brave conduct for his actions rescuing a woman from floodwater in MP Creek, Queensland on 6 March 2022.
Mr Rydell Murray
Mr Rydell Murray is commended for brave conduct for his actions during a house fire in Acacia Ridge, Queensland on 4 June 2020.
Mr Michael Paul Schmidt
Mr Michael Schmidt is commended for brave conduct for his actions during a house fire in Acacia Ridge, Queensland on 4 June 2020.
Awarded the Group Bravery Citation
Mr Robert Gordon Menzies
Recognised with the award of the Group Bravery citation for his actions during a prison riot at Long Bay Gaol in New South Wales.
Mr Wayne Anthony Maconachie, Mr Robert Frank Petersen, Mr Mark Robert Porton, Mr Barry Richard Uhr, Mr Teokatai Umaki
The recipients are recognised with the award of the Group Bravery Citation for their actions rescuing a woman from a burning house in Bayview Heights, Queensland on 20 September 2022.
Mr Martin Patrick Collins, Dr Trevor Hollingsworth, Ms Anne Josephine Jones
The recipients are recognised with the award of the Group Bravery Citation for their actions restraining an armed offender at a hospital in Toowong, Queensland on 28 August 2016.
