Governor’s Community Walk at Daisy Hill
CEO, Health and Wellbeing Queensland, Dr Robyn Littlewood; Senior Ranger, Southern Parks and Forests Logan District, Mr Luke Gunstream and fellow walkers.
I acknowledge the Original Custodians of the lands we meet, and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and to all First Nations people here this morning.
Good morning, everyone. It is my great pleasure to be here with you at Daisy Hill Conservation Park for this community wellbeing walk, bringing an initiative we started a few years ago, when I became Governor, to one of the fastest growing regions in our State.
At Government House in Brisbane, where I work and live, we regularly host community walks through the Fernberg Estate, and it has been a wonderful part of my time in office to see how people really seize the opportunity to come together and enjoy nature, and the company of others — just as we are doing today.
It has been equally inspiring to see these walks expand across Queensland—from Paddington, where Government House is located, to Rockhampton, Townsville, Cairns, and most recently Goondiwindi!
These walks, including today’s, have been delivered in partnership with Health and Wellbeing Queensland, of which I am the proud Patron.
This organisation has made a real, measurable and meaningful difference to communities across our State through practical, community-driven initiatives that support Queenslanders at every stage of life.
Walks such as this are a simple but powerful expression of their mission to ‘make healthy happen’. They bring people together, encourage everyday movement, and remind us that improving our health does not always require complex change—it can begin with something as simple as a walk out in nature.
Each step we take today is a reminder that small, consistent actions can have a lasting impact—on our own wellbeing, and on the health of our communities.
Thank you for being part of this morning’s event.
I hope you enjoy the walk, the company, and this beautiful natural setting—and make a habit of it in the weeks, months and years to come!
Thank you.
