Townsville Community Wellbeing Walk
Townsville City Councillor Andrew Robinson; Health and Wellbeing Queensland CEO, Dr Robyn Littlewood and her team; fellow walkers.
Good morning, all.
I begin by acknowledging the Original Custodians of the lands on which we gather today and pay my respects to Elders past, present, and emerging.
It is wonderful to be here in Townsville for this community walk, and I thank you all for joining us this morning. I know this has been a challenging time for the region, with severe weather and flooding affecting so many in the community.
After such hardship, it is understandable that people are feeling weary—especially with more rain throughout this week. But that is why walks like this matter.
Looking after ourselves—physically and mentally—is so important, particularly in difficult times. Exercise, fresh air, and the simple act of coming together as a community can make all the difference.
As Patron of Health and Wellbeing Queensland, I am delighted to be partnering with them today to encourage Queenslanders to prioritise their health, no matter where they live.
These walks have become a regular fixture in Brisbane, and I am so pleased to bring this tradition to Townsville.
So, let’s enjoy this time together, take in the beauty of your city, and particularly this part of it, and embrace the chance to move, connect, and recharge.
Thank you—and let’s get walking!
