Footy Finals Fever Walk in September

Pull on your team colours and join the footy finals excitement with a community walk through the Fernberg Estate these school holidays!
The Governor, in partnership with Health and Wellbeing Queensland, invites Queenslanders to take part in a free community walk at Government House on Friday, 25 September 2026.
As part of Her Excellency's commitment to promoting a healthier Queensland, participants will have the opportunity to experience Fernberg's new bushland walking tracks. Established as a legacy project of Her Excellency and Professor Nimmo, the tracks encourage physical activity, wellbeing, mindfulness and a deeper connection with nature.
Held during the school holidays and on the eve of the AFL Grand Final, the walk is a chance to get active, enjoy the beautiful grounds of Government House and show your team spirit. Whether you're supporting the Brisbane Lions, the Broncos, another club, or simply enjoying the finals atmosphere, you're encouraged to wear your team colours.
The walk will commence at 9.00am sharp and follow a trail through Fernberg's revitalised bushland.
Bring a water bottle, a hat, and a friend, colleague or family member and enjoy a healthy morning outdoors.
This is a free event, however registration is essential.
We look forward to welcoming you to Fernberg.
Participants should have a medium level of fitness, as there are some challenging hills and uneven surfaces, including gravel pathways. Unfortunately, this event is not wheelchair accessible.
The free community walks fulfill the Governor’s pledge, made when sworn in, to encourage a ‘healthy and active Queensland’, and to open the Estate grounds to more Queenslanders.
Filming/photography: Government House staff reserve the right to film and/or photograph tours and events within the grounds of the Fernberg Estate and do so regularly for official social media accounts and for educational purposes. All care is taken to do so in a respectful manner and avoid clear identification of individuals, especially children. If you do not wish to be featured on Government House social media, please advise your tour guide or the staff member involved.
